A good addition to Gardiner's dining scene

点评：I grew up in Gardiner 60 years ago, live overseas now but spend a month or two here every yea. Bintliff's is a great addition to Gardiner's limited dining scene. It's open for breakfast, lunch, and brunch only. Fun atmosphere, limited seating inside, not good for large groups. In good weather, there's tons of pleasant seating outside overlooking the Kennebec River, with tables for couples and for large groups, too. No waiter service. You consult the menu, order at the cashier, pay, take one of those "buzzers" which "ring" when your meal is ready, and go sit and wait. And even at the busiest of times -- there are often lines -- service is rapid and efficient.
I went to Bintliff's three times within a month. The menu is creative. Many choices. Once I went for breakfast. The blueberry mascarpone French toast is divine, maybe the best French toast I've had in this lifetime. Another time I went for brunch, where I had eggs and hash, perfect eggs but the hash I didn't like at all. The third time I went for lunch and had some sort of Greek-style burger which was not good. They won't make a burger rare, which should have put me off already, but I went ahead and accepted medium, which arrived overcooked. That dish needs to be either eliminated or re-thought. There's lots of choices at Bintliff's and two of my three choices weren't the best. But I feel good about the place and I want to encourage them and urge readers of this review to give it a try. Bintliff's is focused on coffee, and people I trust love their coffee. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I can't say. There are all sorts of hot and cold drinks available.
