点评:I first ate at A1 over 30 years ago when Mike and Neil were the long time owners and my wife and I lived in the area. It was a true date night favorite as well as a lazy Saturday morning breakfast spot. Over the years we had kids and took them there, always receiving friendly service and tasty food. As kids grew older and jobs in southern Maine kept getting busier, and owners changed at the A1 we stopped going and probably haven’t eaten there for nearly 10 years. Today, my college senior and his partner and my college freshman and I had just finished a winter hike in the area and were ready for hearty food so we thought, why not try the old A1? We were glad we did. The fried haddock, fish tacos, clam chowder and pesto chicken were all enjoyed. The coffee was fresh and the service friendly. The beautiful old dining car still has its 1946 charm. Sure, the bathrooms and surrounding area could use a renovation but they were clean and serviceable. All in all, everything’s still good at the A1. If it’s been a while, don’t be scared to go back. The water’s fine!
