Beaches Restaurant的点评
点评：Situated in the comfortable Northern Shores Lodge, Beaches Restaurant opened in the autumn of 2019. Their opening, as it turns out, was rather timely because less than 6 months later a worldwide pandemic was declared and many businesses took a big hit . . . and many didn’t come back at all. Consider: The Sandspit Inn shuttered its doors permanently in the summer of 2020 (because Transport Canada didn’t renew the lease); Cedar and Salt opened in October 2020 and closed less than a year later; Shingle Bay Bistro was, for a time, operating a mere 2 hours per day; and, Dick’s Wok Inn, while very much a Sandspit staple in its own right, continues to operate in a limited “takeout-only” capacity. In the current day, then, Sandspit is left with fairly thin dining options. Thankfully, Beaches has managed to hold on and, now that things have started returning to “normal,” seems to be doing quite well.
The atmosphere at Beaches is casual. The walls are painted off-white, less the wall/area connected to the patio, which is painted a lovely blue colour. The restaurant features overhanging lights with blue covers, which I imagine creates a feeling of absolute calm in the evening hours. There’s also a small bar and flat-screen TV for your viewing pleasure. Beaches Restaurant also has a nice covered patio – ideal in the warmer summer months.
The menu at Beaches is primarily Western casual fare: Caesar Salad, Wings, Zucchini Sticks, Burgers, Lasagne, Pizza, etc. In short, it’s nothing fancy, but everything we’ve tried has been excellent. In fact, the presentation and taste of the food is a large part of why this place “Reminds me of the Sandspit Inn.” And believe me, that’s a good thing.
We’ve had the pleasure of dining here on a few occasions. In each instance, service has been prompt and friendly. Our food has always arrived in good time – usually about 15 minutes after ordering. I won’t comment on everything we’ve tried, but a few items definitely deserve special mention: 1) The Caesar Salad: Advertised as a starter, it’s still a pretty good size. In both presentation and taste, it very much reminds me of the Sandspit Inn’s version of this dish. The lettuce is vibrant and fresh while the dressing always judiciously applied; 2) Pork Bites: Another starter, this dish is suitable to share and comes with a nice tabasco sauce for dipping. The bites are crispy on the outside, but juicy and flavourful inside. Be careful, though, because these can get addicting!; and, 3) The Pizzas: All are served as 12-inch pies and they’re quite exceptional! Generous toppings and a nice crust = deliciousness on a plate. Our personal favourite, so far, is the “Northern.”
In my review of the Sandspit Inn, I described that place as Sandspit’s “social center.” With their doors now closed (for 2 years), I think Beaches Restaurant has helped fill that void quite nicely. A lot of the people who work here previously worked at the Sandspit Inn and, it seems, many of the patrons are regulars – all of whom come for good food and to chat with friends. It’s nice to see this as it results in a warm and welcoming space. I’m just sad I can’t admire stellar views of the airport anymore ;)

RECOMMENDATION: Beaches Restaurant fills a pretty large void in this community. The food is excellent, but I think its role as a new “social center” is even more important. It’s a nice gathering place where you can eat, relax, and enjoy good company in a casual setting. Highly recommended!
