点评:Always meant to go here and couldn’t waste such a beautiful day so went for a stroll with the reward of a lovely lunch afterwards. The gardens are obviously “asleep” at the moment but there were still pretty spots with crocuses (should that be croci?!!!), celandine, some nice red-leaved ivy and red tipped twigs. Churchill statue lovely. The conference centre looks perfect for small groups - like a little hobbit, green roofed house. The museum was very interesting - my mother-in-law was one of the 600 Dover children whose parents wouldn’t evacuate them and, as most schools were closed, the children roamed around apparently and were known as The Dead End Kids! She found that hilarious when we told her. The food was superb! Brown baguettes were lovely and fresh, sausages were plentiful and very tasty and what’s not to like about fried onions. My salad that came with it was generous and had a lovely dressing - very, very tasty!!!! It would’ve been rude not to have a piece of homemade cake with our very generous coffees (nice French press more than enough for 2 cups each) so I had an orange and turmeric sponge and husband who can’t resist a Victoria sponge had their lavender Victoria sponge. I am always a bit wary of lavender in food, worried it will taste too soapy, but this was really delicious! They should sell a recipe book in the museum because the food was delicious; the soups looked delicious too and we will definitely be back for something more substantial but we’ll need to walk along the cliff to wear it off afterwards. Alice kindly brought our lunch out to our table across the road - lovely girl as were all the friendly staff. It’s obviously well known as a place to eat as it filled up pretty quickly and there were some reserved tables. Walked 10 minutes down to the lovely St Margaret’s Bay and along and up the cliff steps in an effort to counteract the two large wedges of cake. A glorious sunny day and a lovely lunch!!
