Accessibility? The menu at Miller's Ale House at 4474 North Harlem Avenue in Chicago's Norridge community is a topper. Miller's is a national chain that opened in 1988 in Jupiter, Florida, and has grown to include 114 locations in 10 states. In the Chicago area, there also are locations in Aurora, Lombard, Orland Park and Schaumburg. Open from 11 to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 11 to 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, it is a casual sports bar chain with big screen TVs that offers everything from bar snacks to steaks and a large selection of over 35 tap beers. Most popular items are fish and chips, French onion soup, prime rib and Philly cheese steak sandwiches. And a specialty of the house, Zingers, boneless chicken tenders, buttermilk-drenched, hand-breaded and tossed with your choice of sauce. I joined four former colleagues to celebrate a birthday and we sampled as much of the menu as we could. We started with plates of Zingers, Tex-Mex nachos, Buffalo shrimp, fried calamari, chicken quesadilla, warm Bavarian pretzels with mustard and chicken wings. You'd think that would be enough. But we still had room for English fish and chips with beer battered whitefish, fries and tartar sauce, barbecue baby back ribs, Philly cheese steak, prime burger, 35 fried shrimp with cocktail sauce and lemon wedges and chicken parmesan alfredo. Miller's is a great place to watch a ballgame.
