点评:A rare, excellent opportunity to see the critically endangered Eastern Lowland gorillas (Grauer's gorilla) in their home. The length and difficulty of the hike to see the gorillas depends upon where they are on any given morning: there is one habituated group of 9 gorillas accustomed to visitors. It was an amazing and well-managed experience; the rangers were fantastic and so helpful and caring.
Anyone who wants to do this should be physically fit and able to hike in often steep, slippery, dense jungle terrain at high altitudes. If you have any mishap, remember you're in a remote area of the DR Congo and not in Rwanda or Uganda: medical help is very far and difficult to access.
I loved every moment of this experience, even the challenging ones, and felt good about contributing to the park and local community, who are working to protect the unique biosphere of the area and the gorillas themselves. The rangers work hard in a demanding and sometimes dangerous environment, be sure to tip them well at the end as they share the tips among one another.
