点评：Amazing place with fantastic food at unbeatable value. This restaurant was recommended by a friend, who is a relative of the owner, so we had high expectations that were met and even exceeded based on the meals we had. We visited El Abu in July 2024.
From the outside, it is in a shopping street of Ayora and the building is classy but you can easily walk past it, when not specifically looking for it. Once you enter, the decor is very welcoming and combines classy with cosy, modern with authentic. The entrance features a glass floor looking into a very inviting wine tasting cellar. There is a great bar and a spacious air-conditioned inside seating area and a lovely outside courtyard area which allows a view on kitchen/grill.
We respectively had almuerzo, lunch and dinner here at 3 different occasions during our trip. The price indication in Tripadvisor needs adjusting in my opinion, as meals were great quality but were very affordable!
For the almuerzo and lunch, we had the menu of the day options, at really low prices and they were top! You can see why this place is popular with locals and expats/retirees.
The common theme I experienced, is quality ingredients in honest dishes. The ham / melon starter we had was great, it was a visually appealing version of a simple classic with a nice touch to it (crispy jamon crisps on top). The grilled meats and fish are what this place truly excels in: we had the best grilled chicken breast ever: smokey and juicy with a tenderness but still a bite. Also the striped bacon- like meat (I cannot recall how the exact cut was called) was awesome, as was the huge Tomahawk steak, which was grilled to perfection. , li
Also the grilled salmon and tuna my wife and daughter had was done just right. The accompanying vegetables and potatoes are kept very simple but tasty. The included desserts we found to be good but not exceptional (variations to a crème brûlée and chocolate cake).
For dinner, which we had on the spacious courtyard, we kicked off an aperitivo and starters to share. What a start! The green asparagus with pesto/ parmesan was combining smokey with tasty and fresh with a great tender crisp bite. What a lovely dish, mouth-watering really....The pulpo brasa was less surprising, as a Spanish classic, but also very good thanks to the grill flavours. We also ordered the gamba in Thai curry as a starter. This is not a "to share starter" and a surprising dish to be on the El Abu menu, but what a feast for the taste buds! Perfect balance of spicy-ness and heartiness ...like a true Thai !!! The main dishes that followed, were grilled salmon (my wife went for a repeat after having this for lunch), burger (my son...), secreto Iberico (daughter) and bbq ribs (me). None of them disappointed ! The Iberian secret was excellent and despite the large portion, my daughter finished it completely. The salmon and burger were found to be equally delicious and my bbq ribs had a great smokey flavor. The accompanying veggies and potatoes were simple but tasty! We could see the tables around us were also enjoying their meals and having a lovely evening. With the starters and the mains, we were honestly too full for dessert, so decided to finish with an espresso or a tea without theine (wife and daughter)... The espresso was top class, as was the thee. What a great place! If you are close to Ayora, do not hesitate to book for visiting El Abu! I highly recommended!
