点评:The science of fermentation is straightforward. The art of crafting great wine takes generations of knowledge. Crane Creek Vineyards in Young Harris, Georgia has been making wine in a relatively short period of time. We visited Crane Creek a few years ago and did not find the wines to be outstanding. This year, we had the opportunity to be in Young Harris again. Crane Creek was on our list of places to visit. We wanted to give them another run.
The view has changed since our last visit. We must say that it was breathtakingly beautiful. The Stonehouse now is the main tasting room. The Farmhouse, which used to be the tasting room is now a small gift shop.
Our visit was on a warm yet breezy October afternoon. We decided on a flight of four different wines.
1. Enotah: This wine was made from one hundred percent Chardonel grapes. It presented some Granny Smith apple up front, very acidic with mineral undertone and tart finish.
2. Zusa: This wine was made using Gruner Vetliner, Traminette and Vidal Blanc. We are very much a fan of Gruner Vetliner due to the lime nuances. Zusa presented us with an opening of tropical fruit, mild lime juice and bright acidity.
3. Old Man Rose: This was a blend Vidal Blanc and Villard Noir. So far, this was our least favorite of the samples. The notes of spoiled rice paired with intense dryness and musty finish made this wine undrinkable.
4. Hellbender: This is a blend of Norton, Cabernet Franc and Chambourcin. Of all the four samples, we liked this one most. Front and forward were notes of dark fruit. This wine was dry with playful tannin and left us with a wood bark finish.
Based on our tasting experience, Crane Creek Vineyards need a lot more time to hone their craft. As previously stated, the view was breathtaking. The wines however, well, you decide on your own.
