The food: A good sushi experience starts with sashimi. The reverence in cutting and presenting the pieces is as important as the quality and origin of the produce. The otoro was good quality but presented in what looked like a massaged bundle like trying to increase the volume of the single piece. The diminutive morsels of uni where clustered together trying to hide its past glory of freshness that once had. The mudiness of a past due uni was starting to show. (In conversation with waiter he admitted to the lack of freshness) The salmon was fresh but was given some sugary marinade that was completely misunderstood. The sweetness diminished the real flavour of the pieces. Finally, the tamago, the simple egg omelette that when perfectioned shows like almost a Mille-Feuille with traces of saltiness and the sweetness of good mirin. The tamago brought to the table was a cake like rubbery like yellow mass that was only tamago by name. It was returned promptly as it was truly hideous. Other people in the table had some rolls, they were well presented and quite good.
In conclusion, if you are looking to have some good sake a few rolls and enjoy a very pricey and pretentious club setting this place is perfect. If you are looking for a truly outstanding sushi experience this place is not it.
