点评:This is a tough review because there was some great things and other not-so-great things. First, the place is great. We sat on the back patio as the sun was setting, which made for a great view. The inside seems a little more restauranty, but seemed ok.
The food…. Fried green tomatoes appetizer was good. Nice acidity and good crust. My entree was a sampler, which had some very good parts (grilled scallops and crab cake were excellent and the collard were great) and some that were just ok (mahi and shrimp were just a tad overcooked). Not terrible or at all, but both needed about 30 seconds less on the grill.
My wife had the shrimp and grits, a dish she normally loves. Unfortunately, this iteration was drowned in a brown mushroom gravy. The taste was fine, but when I say it was drowned, I mean more gravy than grits and shrimp combined. It was just WAY too much. It they had cut that in half (or more), it would have been excellent, but it simply became the dish. My advice if you go this route: tell them light on the gravy.
Aunt Kate’s is definitely worth a stop, but the hit-or-miss nature is a little unfortunate.
