He offered us a table outside, which was not an option considering the extreme heat and the fact that we have a 3-month-old baby. This manager not only ruined our 15th anniversary celebration but also discriminated against us and shamed us in front of other customers sitting at the bar.
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), “Businesses must allow people with disabilities to bring their service dogs into all areas of the business where customers are normally allowed to go.” The law is clear, and it applies to restaurants as well. The manager's practices are unlawful, and legal actions could be taken against such discrimination.
Our service dog is obviously trained to lay down quietly by our side and not move. We have never had any issues anywhere, including flying internationally with him in the cabin and having him in the hospital room for two days after I gave birth to our daughter. It is shameful that this manager's discriminatory actions wasted our evening and clearly violated our rights.
We hope that the owners will take proper actions to address this issue. We want nothing more than to be able to go back to one of our favorite restaurants in Melbourne and feel welcomed like we have for several years.
