点评:My son & I kayaked a part of the Loxahatchee river for two hours from the Riverbend Park launch. We wore safari hats. We had mosquito repellent & water. We had water shoes. The staff gave clear instructions to us with the necessary cautions and suggestions. They were knowledgeable, friendly and professional. We grabbed our life vests (provided) and set out. We were both inexperienced paddlers which proved a challenge after the current picked up after the dam. The stunning beauty of the river and all the different trees and wildlife was a sight to behold. This is the REAL Florida. Due to our inexpert paddling, we ran into several cypress knees (and trees) and bushy areas which disturbed a knot of snakes (don’t know what kind, but I screamed). Also, four spiders dropped onto us/into the canoe (big, don’t know what kind). Having arachnophobia, these were potential freak-out moments, but we didn’t panic & just flicked them off without flipping the canoe. It’s nature, it’s their habitat and they were as freaked out as we were. It was a great adventure we will absolutely do it again, but next time we will hire a guide (available) and we learn the fundamentals of paddling correctly beforehand.
