Athena Diner II的点评
点评：Came from a late doctor's visit, and it was nearly 3 pm, so we were STARVED. My adult son knew what he wanted, but as I hadn't been in a decent New England diner for nearly 22 years (I just returned from living in Texas all that time), I needed time to peruse the extensive menu.
The gal who was our waitperson had just started work at the Athena and she was GREAT! She took our drink orders and let me do a LOT of reading... 8 pages worth, in fact. The waitress was in the neighborhood but at no time did I feel she was hovering or smothering us. When I finally put the menu down, she was there and took our meal orders quickly & efficiently. She was engaging throughout our time at the Athena II and went the extra mile on every request.
Son had their Hangover Burger (fried egg, bacon & American cheese on a hard roll), and I was amazed that at no time from the time he picked it up until he was done with it, was his mouth empty. I was afraid that he might start inhaling it. Lol! It looked terrific and smelled even better.
My Steak Quesadillas were nicely packed (I declined the tomato and requested extra cheddar) with steak and onions, and had some sort of spice mix in them... Mexican, fajita? I dunno what it was, but it certainly enhanced the whole meal. Served with sour cream and a very flavorful salsa.
It was all so good that we ordered their dinner special --prime rib-- to take home. It had salad, rolls & butter, and a baked potato with absolutely everything on it (butter, cheese, crumbled bacon & sour cream IIRC). Son declined all veggies & I requested a double order of cole slaw... it's not the creamy kind, unfortunately, but it was on the sweet side. :-) The prime rib was a huge slab of perfectly medium-rare beef, accompanied by cream cheese & horseradish (made by me at home). The one slice fed the two of us quite nicely!
All in all, I think most anyone could find an excellent meal at the Athena II... certainly not the cheapest "lunch joint" in town, but I highly recommend it!
