I began following @itsbrookdarwin for her quirky creepy Halloween DIYs and engaging voiceovers via “the gram” a while back. She was in the LA area at the time.
I remember she was aiming to present her baking skills on a show and I thought, Wow, that’s dreaming big. (Call me a cynic, I prefer reality-imbued.)
My sister-in-law sent a reel of “this lady” who was opening up a bakery in my town: @breadsavagebakeshop, and lo and behold, it was Brooke! (Don’t let my usage of her first name fool you—-we’ve never met.)
Life went on.
Every time I drove past the bake shop, it was closed.
Finally, last weekend, my husband and I stopped in (before the noon rush), and ordered a solid 1/4 of their offerings.
We took a seat near the front windows beneath the rats on brooms (it’s October after all), a little before the line formed from the counter to the front door “just to have a few bites” before we left.
Twenty minutes later we had consumed almost everything we had purchased, except a large part of the baguette (which we wanted to try with some of our olive oil from the Ojai Olive Oil Company), 1/2 of the browned butter cookie and rocky road brownie (because we saved dessert for last).
The thing is. We were not able to stop after one bite!
Typically a restaurant or bakery will have a “specialty”, a superstar that all of the rest of the establishment’s offerings hang off of, not so with The Bread Savage.

Maybe we could eat them at one sitting because they melted in our mouths!
The textures and flavors! Yummerz.
You can call a couple of days ahead to order for yourself or your family, work colleagues, club members…or yourself, but I recommend going in while you’re enjoying a stroll down Main Street so you can personally enjoy a bit of the creativity, vision and uniqueness that finds its way into every divine morsel from this bake shop.
