点评：I was in LA to visit the La Brea Tar Pits and The museum of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. I wanted a good pastrami sandwich afterwards. If Langer’s had been open, I would have gone there, as their number 19 is the best sandwich I have ever had. I did an online search for alternatives. LA Weekly claimed that Wexler’s is better than Langer’s. Skeptic that I am, I had to put that claim to the test. The result? LA Weekly doesn’t know what they’re talking about. They are clueless. It isn’t close. Langer’s number 19 is the ne plus ultra of sandwiches, a masterpiece of flavor. I ordered Wexler’s Macarthur sandwich, the closest thing to the number 19. First things first: The pastrami. Langer’s has an exquisite melt in your mouth sensation, perfectly seasoned and thick cut. The Wexler’s pastrami was thin and tasted rather dry in comparison, and I had to spit out a piece with unchewable fat. Ugh. The bread was nothing special at all. I could get rye bread that’s just as good at Walmart. The bread fell apart as I ate it. Langer’s rye bread is spectacularly good, and is thick enough to hold together as you eat the sandwich. Old Woody Allen joke: The food here is terrible. And such small portions! Yes, the sandwich was small, much smaller than Langer’s. Oh, and instead of the refillable root beer at Langer’s, you get a bottle of it. The fries were good, but again, a much smaller portion than Langer’s. I will never eat there again.
