Rancho Capistrano Winery and Restaurant的点评
点评：After we left the peaceful Mission San Juan Capistrano monastery within the valley of the same name we ambled a while.
It was a good spring like day for us. And we had food on our minds and one of our companions - a discerning wine focussed LA local - had this place in his mind. We could see why.
It was full covid alert in town with masks and hand sanitiser essential but this place was packed with happy smiling people - wine was flowing and great food smells were inviting. We were four and I guess got the last table.
We were in no particular hurry so we relaxed and we tried several white and red wines each; all were young and, most importantly, served properly. I prefer old world vintage reds that fill the mouth with a roundness and full body taste that wows like Châteauneuf du - Pape from the French village of the same name but what we had matched the lunch time food offerings.
All Châteauneuf du Pape labels have the papal keys on their labels - the keys of heaven and the symbol of Papal authority when the papacy was in France. I swallowed my way around the village many a time.
We opted for two flatbreads - Gorgonzola and apple and mushroom truffle - between 4 but our Danish companion added a turkey club mayo with bacon and fries to himself. He didn’t manage to eat all. As me mother used to say ‘your eyes were bigger than your belly.’
All the food was declared delicious, generous portions and the apple complemented the cheese (with red wine) and the truffle the mushrooms with (white wine).
The (black) truffle was a scent from flavoured oil but no actual truffle and it brought the taste to another level. The service was ace and the noise level reflected a bunch of folks having a darn good time. It was that good I can’t even remember the amount of the bill.
