We had a fabulous dinner at this charming neighborhood restaurant this past Friday. We were fortunate to get an indoor table on a chilly evening, and the cozy and friendly environ reminded us of meals out in Brooklyn and Montreal more than anything we have experienced locally.
The restaurant is located in a residential area with only street parking so parking was a challenge, but we were lucky to find a spot after slow loop around the block.
Everything on the menu sounded delicious and our waitress, Tuesday, was able to help recommend dishes. We ordered a salad, 2 veggies dishes, 2 pastas, and 1 main to share amongst 3. We were all hungry and it turned out to be a good amount of food.
Overall, we enjoyed all of the dishes that came out of the small kitchen, but some were definite standouts that we will order again. The Ellie’s Caesar had spring mix and raw zucchini and was fresh and bright, but bit overdressed. The Roasted Cauliflower with smoky eggplant purée was solid. Our favorite by far was the Garnet Yam which had the most flavor and texture. There was a delicious fried egg aioli, lightened with fresh herbs, and the potato itself was creamy with an incredibly crispy skin, and sesame seed topping. The Chittara Pomodoro with a very cheesy tomato based sauce and chewy egg noodles was enjoyable, but the Tagliatelle with shrimp and spicy sausage blended into a creamy sauce was superb. Our favorite dish of the night was the Short Rib, a super tender, deeply flavorful short rib served on top of a sweet potato purée and braised small onions.
A bottle of Hartford Pinot Noir nicely complemented our meal. And we happily rounded out our dinner with a delicious bread pudding, dotted with plump raisins and topped with vanilla ice cream. A very enjoyable experience.
