点评：We were looking forward, as other reviewers wrote, to seeing the scenery from Kampot to Phnom Penh on our 4 pm ride. The train station is in the middle of nowhere. If the vendors weren't there, I would have felt less comfortable. There were no announcements. The ticket agent said nothing about the half hour delay. All our info came from speaking with tuktuk drivers who were waiting for fares. Finally the tram arrived...a one car engine/Compartment that seats about 40 people. Basically a bus on rails. The one toilet was indescribable. People covered their faces every time someone opened its door. The odor wafted through the entire car. We moved closer to the front of the car, where an engineer, conductor, and two other staff sat. It did transport us; it did not break down. But it was far from the romantic voyage imagined. If it were a train in any western culture, the 3 unsupervised children and their apathetic nanny would have been thrown off the train. Screaming, punching, kicking, and torturing other passengers was permitted. I was forced to discipline them twice for our own safety. In addition, by moving to the front of the train, where the door to the engine was kept open, we had to listen to the constant warning whistle as we passed through road crossings. Bring earplugs. There are no beverages or food on board. Bring your own snacks. Use the bathroom before you go. Painfully slow ride. We finally arrived in Phnom Penh at 9pm, an hour late. Pros: price of $10, and the scenery, while there was daylight, was stunning and not what you see from the road... farms, rice fields, mountains and glimpses of the more pastoral aspects of Cambodian life and landscapes.
