点评：I was booked to travel the train from Kampot to Phnom Penh for a 4pm departure. I was looking forward to seeing the lovely scenery along the way. Unfortunately, upon arrival at the station, I was initially informed the train had broken down and was delayed by 2 hours (6pm departure). Disappointed, but decided to wait since I haven't been on the train in Cambodia before. As the time went by, I kept checking with the guard that it was on track for a 6pm departure. 6 o'clock came and left, so I asked again and was told it was now 8pm! Now it's a 4 hour delay. By this time it was too late to organise an alternative transport, because all buses left at 5.45pm. The train station is sort of in the middle of nowhere, so not much to do but sit and wait. There were a couple of sellers selling snacks and drinks and there is a small cafe close by too. Eventually the train arrived at 8.15pm (not 8pm). We were told the train would arrive at 12.30am into Phnom Penh. On board the seats were reasonably comfortable and there were 4 air conditioners in the carriage. The trip was painfully slow, stopping a couple of times along the way. When we eventually made it to Phnom Penh safely, it was 2.30am!
My advice would be to keep checking early enough so you can book a bus instead. Also, I found the carriage quite cold, so bring jacket. Also bring snacks or drinks as there is nothing available on board.
My main complaint is the lack of information, especially if there is a delay and you are in a hurry.
Fyi, there are toilets on board, thankfully 😊
I would consider trying the train again, maybe a morning train😊.
