点评：We dropped into the café whilst visiting the town for a pre-season friendly rugby match (if such a thing exists).
It was a busy place which is usually a good sign, and proved to be the case on this occasion, however we managed to get a table for two. The walls were lined with some nice artwork which was for sale and we noticed that they also sold some greeting cards and small gifts.
The menu had a good selection and we opted for their homemade flatbreads - one with mozzarella cheese, red peppers, tomato and rocket and one with hot smoked salmon, guacamole, tomato salsa & feta cheese (£10 each). Surprisingly there was wine on offer too so we had a small (175ml) and a large (250ml) glass of Waters Edge Merlot at £4.50 & £6.00 respectively.
The food was very good and filling and the wine was not bad either so we were entirely satisfied on that aspect. We probably didn’t need a reminder from our server (who sounded more Geordie than Scottish) about the drink driving limits in Scotland but he was possibly trying to be helpful!
We noticed on arrival that the cake display was magnificent so could not resist having a slice of the Pineapple & Coconut cake and the Cranachan cake along with two mugs of coffee all of which were first class. The moist sponge and fillings were superb and we’d probably have had another slice each as a takeaway had we not been a bit far from home. My wife’s choice of the Cranachan probably just tipped the taste test as a winner however there were several untried options which took our interest and will need to await a return visit.
Total cost for lunch for two was just over £42.
Could easily recommend to others.
