点评:Unfortunately the Visitor Centre was closed, therefore this review is of the Village of Tuktoyaktuk. There is far more to the Village than is listed on Tripadvisor . Firstly the sod houses, the construction is developed from the drift wood from the Ocean and laid over with sods. There are two examples to be seen. One is of the framework and the other is of the completed dwelling. I would say these homes are true examples of recycling. Secondly the Community "Deep Freeze", unseen from the surface and entered by an anonymous outhouse, these caverns are hewn out of the permafrost to form the individual storage areas for food hunted by the inhabitants. Enquire at the Visitor Centre about a tour. There are also the Anglican and Catholic Churches.
The road from Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk was opened in 2017 to allow all weather road access. It is about 140 miles and the recommended speed of travel is 40 to 45 mph. Previously, Tuktoyaktuk was only accessible by air during the summer and by an ice route in the winter. It is interesting to talk to local inhabitants who you could possibly meet at the sign for the Arctic Ocean.
I felt highly privileged to talk with Nellie Cournoyea during my visit.
