I will always go for the BBQ if I have a choice, and I know the good stuff when I eat it. I chose this place for lunch as it was close to my middday destination, and was rated "#3 best bbq in PHX" by trip advisor.
I can't agree. Had a brisket taco and coleslaw. Wasn't enuff brisket to taste it, buried in cabbage and cotijo cheese, sitting on a grease-soaked corn tortilla. Maybe an ounce of chopped brisket for $14. The coleslaw was OK, but pretty sure it came in a big plastic bucket right off the purveyor's truck. BobbyQ scattered some chopped pecans on the top, which was a nice touch, and maybe the best part of the plate. Sandwich prices are outrageous - 20 bucks for pulled pork or chicken, or a burger, and more for brisket. The decor is overwrought to match the 'Biltmore' area of Camelback. I should have gone to the website and looked at the menu; would have realized that this really IS the company that was called Bobby McGees - famous in Phoenix for overpriced mediocre food and touristy kitsch.
Give me a rustic joint with a roll of paper towels on a picnic table, and a smoker out back pumping out smoke and GOOD food...this elitist big-city pretender should be turned back into a wine bar.
