点评：On a quiet Monday evening we experienced terrible service and disappointing food at what used to be a really good restaurant. Although we have had enjoyable meals here before, we are not regular patrons and this time we felt particularly unwelcome. It started when we arrived, having booked the ground floor table opposite the bar (my wife has difficulty walking and cannot handle their steps) - only to find two ladies sitting at the table we had booked. This was not the first time we had booked this specific table where it was given away to other people. We took the table alongside, which had no "Reserved" sign on it.
The restaurant was near empty and the waitrons stood around the till chatting or taking photos of each other. Nobody served us until a waitress appeared from upstairs and took our order. The owner and his wife were not present, and it was clear that nobody was in charge. Our waitress ("Christina" as per the till slip? - there was none of the usual "I am ... and will be your waitress for the evening") did ask briefly how the meal was going, but when I complained afterwards about the food, she disappeared, having asked another waiter to process my credit card. This left a particularly bad taste, implying intolerance of criticism.
My Tagliatelle Carbonara had very little bacon pieces in it and was tasteless, while my wife complained that her Pasta Napoletana was somewhere between tasteless and mediocre - nothing like the same dishes we had eaten at this restaurant before lockdown.
Whereas the owner and his wife seem firmly in control when they are present, they have obviously not trained anyone to manage the kitchen and the waitrons in their absence. At least they welcomed us on arrival. This time, an elderly man ignored us until we left, when he smiled and said "Arrivadeci".
With this quality of food and service, it should be "Arrivadeci, Mamma Roma".
