点评:This was one of the most distressing experiences I’ve had while traveling. The treatment of animals at the Shanghai Zoo is absolutely unacceptable.
There were over five large turtles crammed into a tiny aquarium, with barely any room to move. I saw an elephant chained inside a cage smaller than a studio apartment, with no space to walk. It was extremely hot, and yet the animals had no proper ventilation — at most, a small ceiling fan struggling to cool the space.
The monkeys appeared severely bored, either lying still or fighting with each other (as I witnessed among the chimpanzees). Their enclosures were in horrible sanitary condition — feces smeared all over the walls and glass, with no sign of proper cleaning.
Even worse, there was a total lack of supervision. I personally witnessed visitors feeding animals chips and candy, and yelling to wake them up, with no staff intervention at all.
If my experience as a visitor was this upsetting, I can only imagine the miserable lives these animals are forced to endure every single day.
Please do not support this place.
