点评：One of the long-time great lunch spots in Homewood, a close -in suburb of Birmingham, AL, is Sam's Deli, and for very good reasons: the food is made fresh when you order it, the staff is pleasant, prices are very fair, portions are solid, he's got great house-made mint tea, his fries are excellent and his falafel is one of the two best in the whole state.
Sam is almost always on the premises, and he personally makes the tabouli (usually not available on Monday's after taking Sundays off) and falafel. There is a large courtyard area for outdoor dining, and a covered area as well. It is clean and spacious, so you never feel crowded.
You enter the small kitchen area to place your order (you can also order by phone) and either wait for it or they'll bring it to your table. The soft drink options beyond Middle Eastern-style mint unsweet and sweet tea are typical of a small Coca Cola fountain: Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite and some fake lemonade product.
The falafel roll-up and a drink costs about $10, and there's a lunch special that adds an order of really good fries for $10.95. My friend Darrell loved the hamburger, complete with Middle Eastern spices mixed into it
One thing that could use an upgrade is the unisex restroom, which really shows its age, but is most definitely kept clean, properly supplied and easily accessed.
So if you want a great lunch spot where you won't be rushed and get treated with warmth and respect, check it out!!
