点评:This is my second visit to Swen's on ski trips over the past 4 years and both times have left me somewhat underwhelmed given the price point. The food is good to very good but there are details lacking. First, the food - we had a caesar salad that was very good but it was served with tiny bread plates the size of saucers. When asked for black pepper we were brought small salt and pepper shakers instead of fresh ground pepper. My son ordered the $32 flat iron steak, asked for it medium rare, but it came out very medium. In addition, the steak was a very small portion and served on a large plate with a few sprigs of argula. It looked incredibly paltry, sparse and underwhelming. I recognize steaks are often served a la carte, but given most of the other entrees (for less $$) come with 1-2 sides on the plate, it really looked and felt underwhelming. The other food we had - the chicken entree with brussels and mashed potatoes, and large portion of mussels were good. One minor beef - if you are serving an $18 old fashioned with a fancy description and name, please serve it in an old fashioned glass with a large ice cube and not a small juice glass with several regular small ice cubes.
As for the service, we had a 7pm reservation, but were not sat until close to 7:25pm and told they were waiting on our table. When we walked in, the restaurant was over two-thirds empty if not more, with open tables everywhere. Head-scratching. It then took 10 minutes for our server to approach us and pour water.
Lastly, I called ahead to say it was my son's 17th birthday and could they do a candle in a dessert. No expectation of a free dessert or anything, but wanted the nice surprise. The host who answered (a man) said absolutely, they do a great skillet cookie for birthdays. Great! He noted it on our Open Table reservation and promised it would come out without any prompting. It did not. Ok, fine. So I discretely let the hostess know after we were done with our entrees, and she said she would let our server know. I saw her tell our server. And yet the dessert never came! We waited and waited and it never came. I had not told my son as we wanted the fun lit candle moment, but it never happened. We eventually got up and left, disappointed over such an execution fail after two polite requests - how did the server miss after being told, in a near empty restaurant?! All in all, the misses kinda exceeded the hits, for a restaurant at this price point and intended level of quality. Ownership/management - you need to pay a lot more attention to service and details to match the good food you are serving.
