点评:We went her at the recommendation of a driver we had hired to take us to the Tavuni Hill Fort. (The two activities make for an excellent half day trip. We paid $80 for the cab including pick up and drop off at our Airbnb in Korotoga. The driver alone made the experience with his reminiscences of growing up on Sigatoka, and his telling of local history and lore)
Sonny was our main host at the village and explained what was going on and how to participate. The singing and dancing were heartfelt and genuine - these are regular people from the village not professional performers. The yaqona (kava) ceremony was low key and fun to participate in, and then the group dancing was a bit awkward but also fun.
I had read about the pottery process at the Sigatoka Sand Dunes visitor center, and really wanted to see it demonstrated. This was the highlight for me - foot wedging the clay, and the simple tools and techniques used with great skill to make a vase.
We knew about the contribution in advance, and really it just felt like a monetary SevuSevu instead of bringing yaqona to give.
We browsed all the tables and chose one item to bring home. We made sure to make a financial gift even though we are traveling light and are not willing to haul a bunch of purchases.
Ten or twelve people from the village spent more than an hour with us - well worth sharing some of our (relative) financial wealth.
I loved chatting with the villagers and drinking more yaqona with them while others were still shopping.
I read the negative reviews here, and really think the authors have learned little about the culture before traveling here and are here for beach and sun, not for an actual cultural experience.
