I had been told to get there as soon as it opens on Wednesday through Saturday at 9 AM as everything is baked fresh daily, and usually the whole inventory goes by 12 or 1 PM. There is an online menu, which is fairly accurate for a majority of the offerings although things do vary from day today. If one wants to guarantee an item, it needs to be ordered the day before, which goes double for cakes.
I came prepared with my list. The receiving line is very much like manufacturing assembly — a line of employees were adjacent to the owner to pick up the desired items as they were rattled off and either box or plate them, depending on whether the orderer was staying or going. Efficient and quick! Good thing too because if I had been allowed to linger in front of that display case another minute, I would’ve added one of each item to my order.
I regretfully took my items to go — the charming, small café area, done in quaint French provincial, will be my destination next visit.
As for the items, well, just Yum. I had the ham and Gruyère cheese croissant, which was out of this world. Not kidding when I say that was the flakiest, butteriest Croissant I had ever had, and that includes the ones I sampled in Paris. The ham was thickly slabbed perfectly paired with the melted cheese. It was so large it made for two meals.
The blueberry scone was also delightful, by itself or clotted cream. The lemon Madeleines were thoroughly enjoyed and devoured by my daughter, who also happily nibbled on the strawberry petite bite. Outstanding on all counts. Our only sadness came at the fact that the macaroons are only produced during the summer— I suppose it gives us something to look forward to.
And the owner, who greeted and took orders, could not have been more welcoming, polite, and cheerful. Overall, it was a wonderful experience
