I drove with my wife and her female pal to Rikasovo village, some 10 km west of Arkhangelsk, in early September with the only purpose of seeing that wooden marvel.
Finding it was a no-brainer. We parked our SUV in front of it and immediately got mesmerised by its elegant beauty. An outstanding illustration of Northern Russian ecclesiastical architecture from the 17th century! The fact that it still stands on its initial place makes it practically unique in my country.
Highly recommended! The church is not active and needs a facelift. Parking is not an issue, of course, but don't expect to find a food booth, a souvenir kiosk or a WC nearby. It's just a typical Russian village, after all.
