点评：In 1864 the Wallsend Coal Company granted a piece of land for a cemetery however some burials had occurred before this date. Official records remain from 1865, the date of the first burial for which a record was kept, until the cemetery was closed in 1896.
In 1938 the responsibility for the cemetery passed to the Newcastle City Council.
In 1953 the council passed the Old Wallsend Cemetery Act 1953 No 5, which allowed them to desecrate the cemetery for use as a park.
During my 2024 visit there is an information board about the cemetery, but no headstones remain. The park has some seating but while we were there only a man with his dog ventured into the park.
I left some flowers for my 3rd Gt Grandfather on a plinth in the centre of the park.
The Newcastle Family History Society has a publication on the cemetery where family historians may find traces of their ancestors.
