One of Many Sculptures Along the Glenelg-Seacliff Coastal Walking Trail
Mother & Baby Dolphin Sculpture的点评
Mother and Baby Dolphin’ is one of several large sculptures along the Glenelg - Seacliff Coastal Walking Trail.
It’s positioned on the South Esplanade. We paused to look at it just outside the Broadway Kiosk.
What you see here is a large bottle-nosed dolphin and its baby rising up out of the water in the ‘tail-walking’ pose.
It’s an unusual pose but dolphins do sometimes playfully ‘walk’ on their tails, pumping their tails to allow them to stand almost fully upright out of the water.
The black granite statue is pretty much life-size. It stands and 2.7m high which is about the size of your average fully grown dolphin.
The sculpture was donated in 2018 by Dr Ken Rollond, a long-time former mayor of Holdfast Bay and is the work of local artist, Simon Farrow
