点评:Been back in Perth for only two days, and I am wrecked. Desperate for some time for me inbetween all the 'must do's' and 'want to do's' that occur when you go for a trip and you have so much to do before you leave again.
All I knew was that anything I did about eating had to be in a cityfied (yep, that's my word and I am using it) meaning: not country, but somewhere salubrious, sitting down and eating in an adult type atmosphere. I hadn't been back to Print Hall for quite a while so that's where I thought I would check it out, what with it being 'refreshed'.
Was going to be fairly warm so thought that heading out for an early lunch (11-ish) found me sitting in a very grand, very high ceiling, very large room sitting in a high stool looking at myself, being reflected in a mirror above a marble table top. The area was off to the side of the central long bar, so was very cool (the temp) and comfortable (that was me). A good vantage point to look out over the herringbone patterned floor surrounded by dark wood chairs and cozy booths that actually belong to Stampa! a new (to me) italian eatery that is within the Print Hall Bar. The italian girl at the desk there is only interested in those that have booked so was quite happy to stick to the Print Hall Bar menu. It still looks the same but I liked the familiarity of it. At this time of day, there are only a few patrons, city folk but there are some of the staff having sit down meetings at the tables so I assume the place will fill up soon.
Curtis, serving at the bar, saw me and welcomed me immediately with some good chat about the menu. After his recommendations, I settled on the Black Angus Rump with peppercorn jus, potatoes and green leaves then after he left with the order, realised I was also having steak later on that night. As someone who needs her red meat, I just inwardly shrugged and looked forward to what was now 'Protein Day'.
(First world problems).
The plate arrived little after 5 minutes, thick and juicy with a dark caramelisation on the fat and while a bit too pink in the middle for me. I didn't mind too much as the peppervorn jus was more rich than hot with pepper and the roasted chats were of a good size. They were fluffy and golden and the dressed greens added an earthy depth which more than satisfied. The rocket, radish mix had been dressed with balsamic adding a sweet/sour note which complemented the richness.
A lovely staff member named Laura offered to show me around the other spaces when we discussed my previous exploits at the Print Hall and she accompanied me to see Apple Daily, (now incorporating other Cuisines like Filipino, Spanish Catalan as well as South East Asian). Also saw SUBO the raw bar and managed to go upto the roof to see Bob's Bar (and the memories flooded back).
I am so pleased that this establishment is still here and hope that I can come back soon to partake of its delights and make new memories.
