点评:I found it difficult to get details of this place before our trip to Brazil, but I’m so glad I did. The Association’s visitor Centre is off the main road Br 101, so that is easy to find. It has several trails (we did 1, led by a guide) and an exhibition about the Tamarins and the conservation project. The confusion arose around the area where the Tamarins are to be found, which is a distance away, on private land and must be booked and guided by the Association’s rangers. For this visit, we had to have a yellow fever vaccination, show our Covid vaccination certificates and wear masks to protect the monkeys. At the visitor centre, it was explained that the project is hoping that the monkeys will eventually spread to the Association’s land around the visitor centre and where they have built a bridge over the road and planted a corridor of trees to the forest on the other side.
The visit to see the Tamarins was so good - they were curious and playful and beautiful and we were able to spend quite a long time watching and photographing them. There were only 3 of us visiting, with 4 rangers, who are responsible for monitoring the monkeys.
We were told at the visitor centre that they want to spread the word out about the project and the monkeys.
Visits by the public are only allowed on certain days. We had been staying in Rio and hired a car and made our own way there, but it could be done as a day trip from Rio.
I highly recommend this visit.
