点评:I've stayed at several ProAves properties in Colombia, and most are very well designed and run. This one isn't.
We were a birding group of 10 people from a well-established company, but they treated us like we didn't matter. The only reason I rated them as high as I did is because the food is good and the nature guides do a good job. But the design of the the new expansion leaves a lot to be desired.
There are two lodging areas - the new, fairly luxurious Kogihabs at the top of the hill and the older, but still quite pleasant, cabins which are a kilometer downhill from there. The two are joined by a fairly steep, uneven, muddy trail. The main entrance to the property is half-way between the two. The only restaurant is at the top of the hill - the old restaurant is closed and is seemed to be being renovated as an "ecolodge". Note that many of the pictures here show the old restaurant so are not representative of the current situation.
The management seem to be focusing on guests who want to stay in their new Kogihab cabins and spend all their time on the property. Guests who stay at the old cabins are second-class citizens. And birders will of necessity need to stay at the lower cabins because the access to the gate is easier, the area is birdier, and there's not much at the Kogihab area for birding (there's a couple hummingbird feeders, but not much else). If you plan to leave the property during your stay - and if you're there for birding you will - you have to walk that muddy trail (likely in the rain and the dark) from the cabins to the gate, because the old entrance/gate is locked and they won't let you use it.
If you don't want to hike the steep trail from the parking area to the restaurant, there is a motorcycle-pulled cart with a couple of benches or a tuk-tuk to get you from the parking area to the restaurant. But if it's raining, that cart isn't covered - you'll get soaked and muddy. That is assuming the road isn't so muddy that the vehicles can't make it up.
Of course, while we were there it rained. It is a cloud forest after all. The road the moto-cart uses was impassable, and we were forced to hike up the steep muddy trail simply to get fed. After a couple days of this, there was a bit of a revolt and we forced the management to open the old (unheated) restaurant building and bring box meals down to us. On the last morning as we were checking out, they actually opened the old exit for us, but it's unfortunate that it came to that.
In addition, on our last full day they decided to fumigate the restaurant right after breakfast. We had advised them that we were going to eat there, but that we were going to leisurely bird our way up in order to make the steep hike more tolerable. Nope. They ignored our plans. We had to rush up the trail to make sure we didn't get gassed. Then we needed to find someplace else for lunch, too.
As a birder you will need to stay here. But minimize the time you spend here and stay someplace else to access the lower elevation species.
