点评:This is a really beautiful park close to downtown Kodiak. It is easy to get to on foot - just cross the bridge, and you'll see the parking lot on the left-hand side.
I agree with the reviewers who suggested printing off a map; there is a map at the entrance, but there are quite a few trails, so it is easy to get lost. At the very least, if you don't have a map and don't have access to internet at the time, download a map of Kodiak on to your cellphone ahead of time and use your cell phone to locate yourself as your walk. A downloaded map on the cellphone came in very handy for making sure I was going in the right direction!
Bears would normally be a concern when hiking in Alaska, but a local on the trail said that bears almost never swim over to Near Island, where the park is. That seemed to be true, judging by the number of local people hiking on their own, or with only a dog for company. Just to be safe, ask at the tourist info if there have been any bear reports before heading out, though.
