Disappointing stay – more youth hostel than luxury B&B.
Island View House的点评
点评：We had a most disappointing stay at Island View B&B.
First the positives - there is an island View – but only from the spartan breakfast room – the bedrooms look onto an overgrown interior garden or a carpark. It is also well located – a jaunt downhill to the town centre, albeit an uphill slog back home.
The accommodation is basic. Bathroom toiletries consist of one handwash, the towels worn, and the wall heater broken. The bed was comfortable, but the room was chilly as central heating had been switched off. Room was also noisy, located on a corridor with creaky floorboards and walls aren’t insulated so you can hear people talking as they pass.
Breakfast was a cold buffet – no traditional cooked breakfast offered (read the small print). Processed ham and cheese slices, fruit salad mainly of chopped apple, yoghurt - more YHA hostel than luxury B&B.
The owner was perfunctory and business like, no 'cead mile failte' in this establishment.
Castletownbere is a characterful place, a working fishing port with its trawlers moored along the quayside - bringing back memories of time in Paimpol, Brittany. We had a delicious meal at Breen’s Lobster Pot. Fresh fruits-de-mer, delicious baked hake, delightful friendly hospitable service and great value – in all categories the opposite to Island View B&B.
We cannot recommend this guesthouse – overpriced at €125 for such basic accommodation.
