Vathy Limenari Beach的点评
点评：People, who want to escape from the in summer a bit crowded beaches of Donoussa, have the possibility to go to the southern beach of Vathy Limenari between Kedros and Livadi. When there in the first week of September we were just three persons with me in total. The small beach has no sand, just rather big, mostly white pebbles. Also it is not so easy - because of stones and rocks - to get in and out of the water. Without sand to lie down and without shade, there is no risk that this place ever gets too popular.
Persons, who don't enjoy hiking, might not come here either, unless they have their own boat and approach the place from the sea. To walk there are two possibilities or best one makes a round trip as I did. First I went to the hamlet of Messaria, from where I branched off from the main road into a track for Livadi Beach, which I then left after 10 minutes to go steep down in zigzag for about 20 minutes to reach the beach. I was here 75 minutes after I had left Stavros.
Back I took a not very clear path up to the ruined windmill of Kato Mylos, from where one has a great view back to Vathy Limenari, which means 'deep, big harbor' in Greek. It must once have been used by the inhabitants of the hamlet of Messaria. Immediately to the east of the beach one can see the long, narrow promontory, where around 1970 a fortified settlement from the Geometric period (900-700 BC) had been excavated. Not much of the flat-roofed houses with a surrounding wall can be seen anymore. From Kato Mylos, after having looked at the still interesting inside of the windmill, I continued to Kedros Beach and on to Stavros.
