点评:We had been there several times in the past, with so far, mainly pleasant memories.
Yesterday, on a very warm and sunny spring day we came back again. Of course it was busy, but we arrived early.
The starters, various fresh cream variants, “Liptauer”, “Bärlauch”, etc. were pleasant, and butter, not margarine based, a major plus.
The wines, in our case “Grüner Veltliner” from 2023, were excellent, as before.
However, the food was a major disappointment!
My wife had “faschierte Laibchen” (minced patties), indefinable ingredients, too well done, mediocre at best.
I choose “gebratene Zander Filets”, a local fish fried.
The poor fish was excellent, but unfortunately completely ruined!
The hot dish was served on top of a cold salad, which turned out to be incredibly sweet. To make matters worse, local dark pumpkins seed oil, with a very peculiar taste (I hate it) was used.
Until I managed to get a new plate, lemons, and got rid of all this junk, the fish was cold.
We have been living more than 20 years at Atlantic coasts in the US and Portugal with a pretty good idea of how fresh fish should taste. Definitely not like this one yesterday, like from a pastry shop….
“Punschkrapfen” as desert was great, but obviously from another supplier.
In any case, we will not be back soon, there are plenty of “Heurigen” with much better food in Sooss or nearby…..
