Good Starting Point to Explore the Tiny, Historic Town of Serrapetrona….
Piazza Santa Maria ( Serrapetrona )的点评
点评:This central piazza is the best starting point to explore the tiny, village-like town of Serrapetrona. A large information board is located next to the historic 1887 fountain and it has a map of the town, with the highlights clearly marked.
We started with lunch in the piazza and had a very good meal at La Cantinella - authentic regional food, local wines and home-made pasta.
The piazza itself is only very small. It is dominated by the 15th century church of Santa Maria which currently houses works of art recovered from other local churches that were damaged in the 2016 earthquakes.
A few surrounding buildings, painted in various shades of pastel pink, baby blue and pale lemon yellow, create a charming effect.
The most interesting feature is the 13th century watchtower and the remains of the medieval walls, just off the piazza. The tower stands just above the piazza. Its walls still have the loopholes that gave archers a protected position from which they could take aim at enemies. Cannonballs could be fired from small, rounded holes, lower down.
From here, the arch of the ancient city gateway, (Porta Della Seconda Cinta Muraria), perfectly frames the piazza and church just below, making a very pretty photo.
Overall, Serrapetrona is off the beaten track for most tourists but if you have the time to explore, you can easily spend an hour or so here.
