点评:During our second trip to Morjim we finally made it to La Plage, arguably the closest the area comes to a fine dining restaurant. The ambiance is very laid back, casual, literally feet in the sand, and most of the seating is under a tent like structure.
The menu is mostly European influenced, following modern trends. As per European custom, most dishes are designed to feed one person rather than being shared around, although of course we couldn’t resist tasting each other’s food. There is a good vegetarian selection.
We started with a tomato tartelette with tapenade and a pumpkin crumble, both full of flavour and beautifully presented. Our mains, an aubergine, miso and tempura dish, and couscous with veggies and harissa were pretty impressive, too. The desserts, both with interesting twists - lemon tiramisu, and cardamom crème brûlée - were a minor triumph! They have a nice selection of wines, but I stuck with a very decent Margarita and hubby with beer.
Service was a bit variable and disorganised, and ranged from fairly polished and attentive to quite amateurish. Prices are obviously quite upmarket, too, but I suppose appropriate for a restaurant of this calibre. Our bill, incl. a tip, was INR4600.
What made me rate La Plage ‘very good’ rather than excellent was the inconsistent service, and the lack of toilet paper in the loo.
Still, probably the most interesting place around Ashwem Beach, and deserving of at least one visit.
