点评:Li-ly was absolutely superb. Fine dining in the modern style, i.e. a tasting menu with lots of small courses. The skill, care and imagination that went into the food was amazing. The flavours were clean and fresh: there were some highly original combinations, all of which worked magnificently.
One of their themes is sustainability, so they use seasonal food and source their ingredients locally as much as possible. For example, they make their own butter from milk from a local farm.
The general feel of the restaurant is very warm and friendly. The pace of service is well-judged. The waiters (and quite often, Aiden Byrne himself) explain the dishes in detail, which gives you an insight into the huge amount of work that has gone into their preparation.
The dinner is 9 courses and costs £90 a head, while at lunchtime they charge £60 for 6 courses. The wine pairing is extra and is not cheap, but the pairings are very well-chosen and sometimes unusual, e.g. a dry Hungarian white made from the same grapes as Tokay with basil-cured scallop, and a Uruguaian Cabernet Franc with the Koji brined lamb breast..
Not the sort of place you would want to visit every week, but definitely somewhere to go for a special occasion. In fact, we can't think of anywhere in or around Knutsford that even begins to approach it in quality. Thank you, Aiden and Sarah!
