点评:Firstly, I would say that if we had known there had been a change of owner we would have considered other accommodation, we booked through bookings.com and the reviews were great, these stated that, the hosts were very friendly and welcoming and could not do enough for the guests, the breakfast was fantastic and the list goes on, unfortunately this was not what we experienced. Alarm bells should have gone off when we saw they had vacancies sign in the window, we went at the height of season (2nd to 4th August) and every other hotel/B&B had NO VACANCY signs on display, but we thought this may just be an oversight.
On arrival we parked in one of the allocated parking spaces, that we had been informed we needed to prebook as there are only 5, in the next space was a rather old Honda with a young man sitting in it, I’m not judging merely setting the scene, and walked the short distance to the front door. Here we found a lady waiting for someone to answer the, after a while the same young man who had been sitting in the Honda answered the door and let us in, it was then the lady asked if there was parking and the man, who seemed to struggle with English, said yes and pointed to the limited parking area, I am unsure where we would have parked had we arrived slightly later as all spaces were full and there is limited parking around the adjoining roads.
The young man asked for our name, after several attempts he finally goy it and remembered we were in room 103, King room with balcony & sea view, the room was very good, clean, apart from one set of curtains that look as if someone had wiped their backside on, although I am sure this was just chocolate ice cream or something similar I hope! The bed was comfy and the room was equipped with a large ceiling fan and a fridge, both welcome accessories and a large tv that made viewing the Olympics from the bed easy, although there are also two chairs should you want to site closer, there is also a coffee machine in the room, although no pods, I am unsure if they expect you to supply your own but there were coffee sachets and tea bags, long life milk and a single pack of biscuits that had passed their best some considerable time ago.
There were no instructions in the room regarding any of the items in the room, Wi-Fi code, what’s on in the area or even check out and breakfast, although a sign in the entrance lobby/breakfast area stated this was served between 08:80 & 09:30, this should be confirmed at check in, and to use a well-known pantomime saying, ‘Oh no it isn’t’. I went down stairs to find the young man and after a few minuets he came out to speak to me, I asked if there was Wi-Fi, and he confirmed there was, instead of giving me the code he asked for my phone and typed in the password, I asked about breakfast and in broken English confirmed there was breakfast, I asked if we needed to confirm a time and as I was unsure of his reply I said we would be down at 9am. On returning to the room, we received a knock at the door, and we were given a little sign with the Wi-Fi code, although the Wi-Fi is not very good, I expected to see a dialup modem somewhere in the room.
The bathroom was another story, the towel rail had fallen off, this was just placed on a shelf, so where do you hang your flannel, sorry bath towel, you may need to tie two together to cover your dignity if you are larger than a toddler. The shower had two attachments, the standard shower head, and to coil a phrase from my elderly mother ‘I could p!@@ faster’ and the rainfall head, when I say rainfall I should say damp day in Eastbourne head as more water falls over the Sahara dessert than does out of the head, after a few minutes trying to clear the limescale some water did start to run but even then it really wasn’t worth the effort, it had about as much pressure and an 80 year old man with prostate issues, the floor could do with replacing but again was clean so you have to be thankful for that.
After a surprisingly restful nights sleep, it is a busy road outside but traffic eases around 11pm so nothing too strenuous, we went down to breakfast, at this stage I think it is worth noting that it seems that there may be permanent residents living at the property, there adjacent room to ours was definitely not a guest room, and the people in the room above get up around 6:30 am, it’s a older property so you can enjoy the routine of whoever is up there when they are walking about.
We were both really looking forward to breakfast as the reviews had been so good, when we arrived in the breakfast area we took a seat at a table and was greeted by a different friendly young man, it did take a little while to establish that we wanted a full English, although we had no idea what it contained, when my wife asked for scrambled egg instead of fried the look of surprise upon our hosts face was worth the cost of the trip alone! There is a continental option, only joking, a bit like the selection itself, the butter was in little packets, still in the box there were bought in, not even in a chilled bowl, the milk consisted of a 4 pint plastic bottle, again not refrigerated, a few cereals in plastic tubs and the jam selection, well only strawberry jam, packets were again in the box that they were purchased in, no yogurt, fruit or psalteries. The breakfast arrived and was worth the wait, if only to know how the bacon had been cooked, it was not great but what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right?
We stayed the full two nights but did not worry the chef for breakfast the following day, I may be brave but I’m not stupid.
On check out we arrived downstairs at 09:30 but there was no one around so left our key on the side, we assumed this was correct as there were no instructions to follow.
I may make it sound like it was a terrible stay but this was not the case, the location is good, and the bedroom/bed are very comfy, just be prepared.
