Naxian on the Beach的点评
点评：We really wanted to like this place, and we booked it despite all of the bad reviews. I will say many of them are unwarranted: this is a nice place to stay -- even though it was really expensive in high season, but what're you gonna do? -- and the people are kind, but what's really lacking is the level of service and communication for the money you pay.
First, we were assured this hotel was adults-only. We even emailed the hotel when we booked in January 2023 to confirm that it was. They guaranteed it. Yet, when we arrived, there was a small, loud child in the room next door. We immediately alerted the staff; nothing was done. We said something again upon our departure, nothing was done. We complained when we returned stateside; nothing was done and the hotel went completely radio silent. We are now a month out from our trip, and they have yet to reply even to IHG Hotels or Mr. & Mrs. Smith Hotels (who we booked through and lodged a formal complaint). They quite literally just stopped responding, which, if you read many of the other reviews for this property, looks to be a pattern. It has gotten to a point now that we've put it into the hands of our credit card company as a disputed charge for advertised services not being rendered, because absolutely no one at the property is willing to address our communications.
The location is quite lovely, at the far end of Plaka, away from some of the noisier spots, but still within walking distance to many great restaurants -- and the KTEL public transit picks up almost right in front of the hotel, taking you to Naxos town within a half hour. It's true that there's no front desk, and you check in/out at the bar -- but that's not so unusual these days for boutique hotels (Moxy Hotels make a whole schtick out of it). But there's a difference here: they don't talk to each other. So, the right hand never knows what the left hand is doing. It seems that the Naxian Collection hotel in Naxos Town is the sister hotel, so they handle all corporate matters through their front desk, but no one answered the phone or email there either.
We loved the little dipping pool on our balcony. Many people complain about it because it's not a hot tub, but they don't advertise it as a hot tub. It's a refreshing plunge pool with jets that was perfect after a day at the beach.
So, in the end, it's really buyer beware at this spot. If you want to throw away $600/night with a screaming child next door after you're guaranteed it's an adults-only property, go for it. Just know that any complaint or expectation of service you have will fall on deaf ears.
If we didn't run into these issues and actually got what we expected for the price we paid, Naxian on the Beach would probably have gotten 4 stars. But it's one star for us, and a warning to all of you to be very careful before laying down this kind of cash for this place. And, whatever you do, do not pay in cash or debit card, lest you never see that money again. Using your credit card will protect you; we're so glad we did.
