点评:This place has a charming location - a square that is filled with wonderful old banyan trees, which is very popular with locals particularly in the evening. Alas my experience where we hoped to be tourists charmed by the bucolic splendour of the location was rather undermined by a very rude, arrogant young male waiter who looked like he’d rather be aiming a blow to my solar plexus than deign to serve me a cafe con leche. First of course was the old continental trick of ignoring the tourist repeatedly. I am used to this. I parried and bypassed his surly presence by visually imploring another waiter. His fellow waiter was indeed little better, a cheeky grin and perhaps the hint of a knowing shrug - at least an acknowledgment of the Lacanian Other who for a brief moment was me. My hopes arose but alas my new friend merely directed me back to my foe who was now even more enraged because of my failed attempt to bypass him.
We reverted to trench warfare as my nemesis turned back to his strategy to ignore me. Finally I performatively waved my hands and he replied with an angry burst of Spanish. I replied with an intriguing mixture of Western European languages all bundled up into one sentence. He looked angry but also confused which I took as a small victory. I left theatrically. He pretended not to notice. Like the end of a too brief love affair.
One rather feels my foe’s talents might best be used in a different line of work where customer interaction is less important. I can imagine him as a young firebrand for a hard right political party for example or an enforcer for a credit agency. The world is still his oyster after all and this is a chap who is going to prise open that shell with his bare teeth.
As a note, the nearby museum has charm but little of actual interest, like a municipal museum in any small town in England. The trees though, are absolutely splendid.
