Take time to see the building for its place in France's history as well as its magnificent art collection!

点评：This was our 4th visit to The Louvre, the 3rd in the last 12 years. This time I wanted to spend time going deep into the museum galleries, across all three buildings, to see the buildings as the Royal Palace it once was. So we made plans to spend the day there. We arrived by 9am, got in line, got diverted to another entrance with short security lines, and made our way into the main information lobby. After stowing bags, we stopped at Starbucks for coffee and pastries. Then headed upward and onward into the Richelieu building for the French and North European 15th-18th Century galleries where we saw some stunning religious art. We kept moving through the galleries, one by one, until we had moved throughout all three buildings. Lunch break was at an outdoor cafe overlooking the Pyramid plaza, with closeup views of the statues that adorn the full length of the Louvre. Highlights were seeing Delacroix's Liberty Leading the People, some Della Robbia terracotta works, and the Royal Apartments (with Couture fashion installations from major houses like Balenciaga and Versace, to name just a couple). We ended up spending about 6 hours at the museum. Pretty sure we didn't hit all the galleries, but enough to allow us to feel like we saw the building from a historical perspective as well as the art collection, up close and personal. As a fan of modern architecture, it was nice to see I.M. Pei's work from many angles, not just the Pyramid outdoors.
