Having tried to support small businesses and local businesses in general throughout my life and even more so during the tough times brought on by COVID-19. I am saddened to have to write this review, and it is in no way meant to ruin your business but to express deep concern for the way your staff are treating people who are trying to shop local and support small businesses. Guidelines for mask wearing in indoor hospitality were removed on January 22nd by the Department of An Taoiseach, however a member of your team refused my 2 year old nephew a hot chocolate on Monday 24th January simply because his dad was not wearing a mask, when indeed he no longer needed to. He calmly told your staff member that these were no longer the rules and was told he was wrong. He was told to leave, with a heartbroken two year old who couldn't understand why the lady wouldn't let them buy a hot chocolate.... having checked the doors, windows etc for mask signage before even entering, my brother was taken aback at being asked about one, let alone being forced to leave with his son for no reason. I understand that guidelines have been ever changing and at times hard to keep up with, but as business owners, especially in the business of hospitality, it is your duty to keep up to date with said guidelines when implemented and equally when they are removed. I will never step foot in your cafe ever again, and will advise everyone I know about this incident also. There are plenty of businesses in this town that appreciate our custom and we are all more than happy to help them thrive and support them. Discrimination is discrimination no matter what way you try to dress it up. To make matters worse, after you treated them in such a poor manner, he went home and read up on the guidelines to ensure he did not make an error and then sent it to your page privately at which point you realised you were wrong and instead of addressing your short comings, you blocked him from your Facebook page (why? in case he left a public review? are you ashamed of your behaviour? are you trying to protect your image?) Shame on you, what awful customer service, repeatedly. For anyone wondering about the updated guidelines, Failte Ireland are no longer issuing industry guidelines and are simply directing people to the government website, i contacted the restaurant association of ireland also, who agree the government website is the most up to date guidance on the matter. Check the government website for the details but the image attached shows the list of places where masks are required.
