点评:We were hoping to enjoy a wood-fired pizza at the caravan and camping site right in the heart of Moffat (which, by the way, is fantastic), only to discover – slightly demoralised – that service stopped at 8pm.
But as life often does, it served up an unexpected twist.
The incredibly helpful proprietor of the pizza van pointed us toward Claudio’s, and while it began as a backup option, it quickly became the highlight of our evening. We arrived rather sheepishly, half-expecting a “no room at the inn” moment, but they welcomed us with warmth and ease.
And thank goodness they did – because what followed was a truly memorable meal.
The service was attentive and relaxed, and we were encouraged to freestyle a little with the menu – which was not only allowed, it was enthusiastically accommodated. The pizza was spot-on, the pasta was excellent, and the homemade tiramisu took me straight back to Milan.
The couple at the next table had the duck – and next time, I’ll be first in line for that. It looked absolutely beautiful.
What stood out at Claudio’s was the sense of pride, wholesomeness, and quiet ambition in every dish. It’s clearly a place loved by locals – and deservedly so – but it’s also the kind of place you’d gladly make an effort for.
A small disappointment turned into a big win – and we’ll absolutely be back.
