点评:The staff kicked out a birthday boy for eating birthday cake brought onto the premises. Even when I'd pre-approved it!
I asked and planned ahead of time if I could bring in a birthday cake for a birthday and was told this was fine. They politely put the cake behind the counter.
We came back to a quiet empty cafe and I collected the cake and set it down on the table. Almost immediately an older staff member stormed over and told us we cannot eat food from outside on the premises and we must go elsewhere if we want to eat the cake.
We were stunned. We had not even had time to sit down, light candles or look at the menu to decide what coffees and snacks we wanted. We were upset by what had just happened so we immediately packed up and left.
On leaving we were told by the same staff member "You wouldn't do it at a restaurant would you?" ... this is how public birthdays work in restaurants!
I understand the need to make sure the cafe makes a profit but we had not even had a moment to look at a menu, the cafe was quiet so there was no competition for space. It put a damper on the end of a day and immediately deprived the café of our custom, as well as for the foreseeable future.
