点评:Every few months I meet up with an old school pal, usually at Ballyhackamore, for dinner. We like to eat at different restaurants. On this occasion we decided to go to Marcel, a small restaurant at the beginning of Belmont Road in east Belfast. It’s directly opposite Tesco’s.
It was quite busy when we arrived at 7.30. We ordered a large bottle of water and a bottle of Malbec red wine.
For starters we both had the French onion soup; followed by steak & chips for my friend and chicken & chips for myself.
Pudding comprised panna cotta for me and apple crumble for my pal.
We both had Irish coffee at the end of the meal.
We both enjoyed the soup, which we we seasoned, with lots of onion.
My friend enjoyed the steak, which was very lean.
My chicken was on the bone, with one leg and breast.
The main courses were really very simple. Mine had no sauce, so I asked for ketchup to enhance it a little. Was the chicken dry? Perhaps a bit.
Were the French fries home made? I honestly couldn’t tell.
It was served with a lettuce garnish.
I’ll give Marcel between three and four stars on this occasion.
