点评:This was my second visit to Thwaite Mills, as I loved it so much the first time. I cannot recommend it highly enough for anyone interested in social and industrial history, or just wanting to wander around in a beautiful setting between a river and a 'navigation'. It is the most interesting mill I have ever seen, with a huge working water wheel, fascinating and informative displays and masses of old machinery and equipment formerly used in the grinding of chalk and other substances to make putty and other products. There is also the manager's house furnished as it would have been. Friendly and knowledgable staff, and ridiculously cheap entrance fee (£5 per adult). Drinks and ice cream available but bring your own picnic. Signage needs improving as a little hard to find. It will be a terrible loss to the nation if this unique and magical place eventually closes down due to lack of funding as predicted. See it while you still can. I will be back there soon.
